The catch of the year has to be this MD-10. This 50 year old MD-10 was donated to Orbis International by FedEx, and is flown by volunteer/retired pilots, staffed by volunteer medical teams and instructors, and features a pre-op, an operation theater, and a post op room. Orbis believes that 80% of the world’s blindness is curable, and so, the aircraft goes around the world on its missions, taking the ‘Flying Eye Hospital’ to places that really need it. In addition to this, the aircraft passenger cabin also doubles as an AV classroom, which is used to teach local teams the new advancements in the medical world. With this, Orbis ensures that it also leaves behind vital skills that can be used by the local doctors to cure and help patients, long after the aircraft has departed.
It is so nice to see this airframe have its new life, giving vision and spreading joy all around the world!
