Roger ‘Dodge’ Bailey sweeps along the display line at the Shuttleworth Collection’s August 2020 ‘Drive-in Airshow’ with a spirited topside pass at the helm of the Cranfield University National Flying Laboratory Centre’s Jetstream 31 research aircraft.
Opening the show’s flying activities with a rousing demonstration of energy and agility in the 19-seat regional airliner, the Jetstream’s more sedate origins are hidden well at very low-level, with two Garrett TPE331-10UR turbine engines providing a wonderfully characteristic turboprop whistle, and putting out over 900 shaft-horsepower in flight.
G-NFLA flew her final public appearance at a Shuttleworth show a year later, and is today imminently set to be withdrawn from service, and replaced with a larger Saab 340B in the educational role at Cranfield.
