With both General Electric GEnx-1B turbofans rising to idle power, and all ground support equipment pulled away, the crew onboard Swiss aircraft management giant Comlux’s newest large private operation prepares for a departure to London’s Stansted Airport from Birmingham in the early hours of the morning – having landed shortly beforehand from a lengthy 12-hour sector out of Uruguay’s Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International Airport, Punta del Este.
Acquired from a short-term storage a few months ago, and now believed to be in the hands of the Argentine-Italian actor, director, screenwriter, aeronautical physician, and famed pilot Enrique Piñeyro, the 7-year old aircraft still wears the partial livery of Aeromexico, it’s previous operator, as N961AM.
Although little is known about the reasons behind the Dreamliner’s operation, the aircraft has been highly utilised on private flights across continents, and perhaps most notably for breaking both the record for the longest Boeing 787 flight, and the longest recorded distance flown between two cities by the type non-stop – of Seoul and Buenos Aires six days ago, at over an immense 10,500 nautical miles.
