Boeing’s BOE130 crosses Runway 33 at Birmingham Airport on an evening arrival from California’s San Bernardino International, via Bangor International, Maine.
Formerly a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) for Hong Kong Airlines as VP-BOP for four years, afterwards moving to Business Aviation Services Guernsey as 2-BASG, the 2011-build aircraft has since returned to the care of Boeing – and today, is one earmarked for conversion to the Boeing E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft for the Royal Air Force – with the work undertaken in STS Aviation Services’ hangar on the Elmdon side of the airfield, with another 737-700BBJ N946BC already being worked on inside since earlier this year.
Set to replace the Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW Mk1 fleet stationed at Waddington, the RAF is said to receive the first of three expected Wedgetails in 2023 at RAF Lossiemouth, co-stationed with the new P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft fleet.
