This is a full scale replica of a Mk.1 Spitfire, commemorating 609 (West Riding) squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force. Representing Spitfire Mk.1 R6690, flown in the Battle of Britain by the squadron, but shot down over London in 1940 by a Messerschmitt Bf110.
