The sole remaining British Airways 100th anniversary retrojet still in the skies today, the airline’s British European Airways (BEA)-schemed Airbus A319-100 approaches Runway 27L at a wintry London Heathrow Airport, arriving on the afternoon BA1445 service from Edinburgh.
Complementing a trio of Boeing 747-400s repainted in 2019 – to celebrate BA’s 100th anniversary through a long lineage of British airline operations – into heritage schemes of the ‘Landor’, ‘Negus’ and BOAC ‘Golden Speedbird’ icons of past decades, A319 G-EUPJ was selected to represent BEA in their ‘Red Square’ scheme of the late 1950s and 1960s – itself a narrow-body aircraft, in keeping with the majority of the original airline’s fleet types. Still flying today as one of the oldest A319s in BA’s fleet, and with some aircraft of a similar age having been already sent for scrap, G-EUPJ has been rumoured to retire soon, although it is yet to be officially confirmed when.
